Tomlinson Run State Park Hiking Trails

Tomlinson Run State Park is located in the northern panhandle of West Virgina in Hancock County. There are several hiking trails in the park that contain history dating back to the 1800's. There are several creeks that run through the park and end at the backwaters that flow into the Ohio river.

  • There is an old roadway that extends from New Manchester, WV to the Ohio River which was access to East Liverpool, OH.  This roadway was built before the invention of the automobile so it was used for horses, wagons, and mule teams.  There are several retaining walls that were engineered to prevent the roadway from collapsing over hillsides.  The walls were made from huge cut stones.

  • This is a homemade motorized oil derrick that was built around the early 1900's.  It was powered by a tractor that hooked to a large belt which turned gears to move the steel cable back and forth to operate the pump.
